ANTIQUE GEOMETRIC QUILT DESIGNS Z AND CROSS
| < INDEX | BOOKS | NEXT >
Quilt Notes: Z AND CROSS (also called Z-CROSS) is illustrated in Rhoda Ochser Goldberg's NEW QUILTING AND PATCHWORK DICTIONARY. According to ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS, compiled by Barbara Brackman, its first appearance in quiltdom is traced to the Ladies Art Company Catalogue (LAC #516, dated 1928-34) where it is titled CRAZY HOUSE, however with only a two-color arrangement. This illustration is a slight variation, adding a grey background instead of white. For other designs at this site with a letter of the alphabet as part of the name, compare with V-BLOCK, XQUISITE, and Y-BRIDGE, also T QUARTETTE and FLYING X. Strangely all of these letter-names are near the end of the alphabet.
