Quilt Notes: WEST WIND is illustrated in Jinny Beyer's QUILTER'S ALBUM (pg. #127-6) and dated back (in print) to at least Nancy Page's syndicated quilt column (1934). Beyer juxtaposes several 3 x 3 blocks constructed on a diagonal including variations of the exceedingly elegant BIRDS IN THE AIR.
Another name for WEST WIND is VICTORY BOAT. And there is a sense in the design of wind filling the sails of a small boat. Zephyrus (Ζέφυρος), the West Wind, is considered the most lovely and life-giving of all winds, because it is the Spring Wind.
