Quilt Notes: For illustrations of two variations of WASTE NOT outlined on a full grid, along with instructions on how to draft your own patterns, see the QUILTING AND PATCHWORK DICTIONARY by Rhoda Ochser Goldberg, 1988. From "Waste not, want not," the design seems beautifully reminiscent of Amish minimalism.

WASTE NOT is similar to the rather tipsy PERPETUAL MOTION (illustrated right), which requires an 8 x 8 grid, and was included in Maggie Malone's 500 FULLSIZE PATHCHWORK PATTERNS, 1985. This design tiles beautifully, repeating itself "perpetually," positive and negative, like an Escher design. Nancy Cabot included the pattern in her column in the Chicago Tribune on August 29, 1936.
