Cabot Washington Sidewalks Quilt Notes: WASHINGTON'S SIDEWALKS first appeared in print in the Ladies Art Company Catalogue (#175) in the late 19th c. It was illustrated in the syndicated Chicago Daily Tribune Nancy Cabot column, on June 2, 1934, where it was dated back to a preference for geometric designs in the quilts of the 1840's and 1850's: Cabot says:
"Geometrical quilt designs attained great popularity in the forties and fifties, a popularity that stimulated the development by American diemakers of new colors in the favored prints of the period. WASHINGTON'S SIDEWALKS is one of the old pieced blocks of that time which combined red and white and a yellow figured print material to make a strikingly beautiful design."
