Quilt Notes: TURKISH PUZZLE tiles almost magically, and is also unusual in that its geometry includes no triangles (though they are obviously required for piecing, see left). It is illustrated in Maggie Malone's 500 FULL-SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS, Sterling, 1985, with templates, but is not included in Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS. The sense of precision in this creation looks quite Islamic: perhaps it was derived from a Turkish ceramic tile design.
