Quilt Notes: The four-patch, TO MARKET, TO MARKET is illustrated in Maggie Malone's 500 FULL-SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS, 1985, but like VORTEX, it does not seem to be included in Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PATCHWORK QUILT DESIGNS, or Judy Rehmel's QUILT ID BOOK. The designs may be original to Maggie Malone, or from other anonymous sources.
There are a number of versions of the Mother Goose Rhyme, one of the oldest is:
To market, to market, to buy a plum cake,
Home again, home again, market is late;
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.
