Cabot Thrift Block
Quilt Notes: Jinny Beyer's QUILTER'S ALBUM OF PATCHWORK PATTERNS lists this design as alternately titled THRIFT BLOCK or THE KING'S CROWN (p. 58-5). We chose THRIFT BLOCK, because it is so simple a pattern and easy to piece, although it's actually a variation, at least as regard's Nancy Cabot's 1937 version of the title, illustrated left, and which according to the Ladies Art Company Catalogue, is also named ECONOMY (#264).

The perfection of the design appears in the over-all tiling (see below), where the secondary pattern is the same as the block, except that in one the center is a light print and in the other a dark solid. Very beautiful. See at this site comparative patterns offset by inner or outer squares:
