SYMMETRY IN MOTION
(piecing grid)
Quilt Notes: SYMMETRY IN MOTION is illustrated in Maggie Malone's 500 FULL-SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS, 1985, including full-size templates, but is not listed in Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS or Jenny Beyer's QUILTER'S ALBUM, and perhaps unique to Malone, especially as there is no other derivation listed in Malone's 5,500 QUILT BLOCK DESIGNS compendium.

SYMMETRY IN MOTION accurately describes the beauty of many geometric quilt designs, creatively a marvelously original name: compare at this site with (AN) ARRANGEMENT OF SMALL PIECES, another block title which describes not so much how it looks but what a quilt design acutally is (the page includes a reflection on modern optics in quilt designs as well).
