Quilt Notes: SWALLOWS ON A STAR is also called FLYING SWALLOWS, along with several other names. It is listed in the Ladies Art Company Catalogue as #503. It is illustrated on a full graph in Rhoda Ochser Goldberg's QUILTING AND PATCHWORK DICTIONARY, 1988. It was included in Nancy Cabot's column in the Chicago Tribune, in 1935, as FLYING BARN SWALLOWS.
As a name, "SWALLOWS ON A STAR" seems incredibly dreamlike and poetic. The bird designs (composed not of the usual triangles, but of parallelograms) follow each other round a circle like a flock so beautifully.
