STAR OF MANY POINTS

ANTIQUE GEOMETRIC QUILT DESIGNS * STAR OF MANY POINTS
< INDEX | BOOKS | NEXT >
Star of Many Points Nancy Cabot Quilt Notes: STAR OF MANY POINTS was illustrated in Nancy Cabot's Chicago Tribune column on September 6, 1936. According to Cabot it has many other names including the intriguing DAVID AND GOLIATH. And there are several other design versions in other sources under this same title (see Maggie Malone, 5,500 QUILT BLOCK DESIGNS, #1908).

The star itself has exactly 12 points, not that many compared to some, but it is very pointy in construction, its edges and indentations sharper than usual. Cabot's own rendering with alternating light and shadow (as left), and its accompanying 3D, increases the effect. And because the design jumps forward, there is also an unexpected possibility of creating ersatz movement (illustrated above right) or of positioning the empty space in the tiling pattern (see below).

Compare with STAR OF ERIN, also STAR OF THE WEST and STARRY PATH.
