Quilt Notes: SPOOL AND BOBBIN is a design published by Nancy Cabot in 1936, as listed in Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS. There is a play on bobbing and bobbins in this illustration, utilizing traditional Japanese fabrics, but the hour-glass shapes of the spools are easily discernible (the block is pieced in diagonal strips).
