Rustic Wheel by Nancy Cabot
Quilt Notes: RUSTIC WHEEL debuted in Nancy Cabot's quilt column in the Chicago Tribune, illustrated left, on July 2, 1936. Cabot's comments state the following:
"From the delightfully historical state of Virginia comes an old and complicated pieced quilt pattern. from the illustration of the single block it readily may be seen that the pattern was adapted from woodwork make of limbs and roots of trees and arranged in a wheel design. […] The blocks were set together to form an all-over design and finished with a five inch border of white, and then bound with a 1/2 inch bias binding."

An interesting and unusual dodecahedron, or 12-sided geometric pattern, RUSTIC WHEEL is illustrated in Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS #2615, in her section titled "Blocks with Specific Construction." Compare with a wide variety of many different kinds of pattern themes at this site, including:

    WISHING RING (magical)
GRANDMOTHER'S DREAM (lattice garden)
