PROVIDENCE is illustrated in the QUILTING AND PATCHWORK DICTIONARY by Rhoda Ochser Goldberg, 1988. It debuted in the Ladies Art Company catalog in 1928 (#478) and reappeared in the Nancy Cabot Chicago Daily Tribune quilt column on June 7, 1933. See illustration left. Cabot (Loretta Leitner Rising) writes: "If pieced in bright, cheerful colors and prints this design has a gayety which even the most pessimistic will appreciate." Some of the most beautiful quilt patterns are drafted on a 10 x 10 grid, partly because of the type of symmetry it provides (see the elegant tiling below).
