ANTIQUE GEOMETRIC QUILT DESIGNS PRACTICAL ORCHARD
| < INDEX
 | Quilt Notes: This version of PRACTICAL ORCHARD is illustrated in the QUILTING AND PATCHWORK DICTIONARY by Rhoda Ochser Goldberg, 1988. A variation (see left) was offered by Nancy Cabot (Loretta Leitner Rising) in the Chicago Daily Tribune, June 5, 1934, as an "ideal medium for the beginner."
"Practical orchard" would seem to refer to an old orchard no longer bearing fruit, but which is grafted over so that it bears fruit again. See History of Science and Technology for an article on Luther Burbank's "practical orchard plans & methods," 1914.
