Quilt Notes: PATIENCE CORNERS was illustrated in the Ladies Art Catalogue (LAC #90), published in the late 1890's. The piecing arrangement illustrated left, follows Maggie Malone's example in her magnificent, full-color 5,500 QUILT BLOCK DESIGNS (#2421). The decorative pattern used for the fabric fill here is borrowed from a fractal design, chosen from hundreds of fascinating geometric configurations and fractal art available at Wikipedia Commons. It has a distinct seashell quality as is true of many fractals.
Other quilt illustrations at this side which employ marine-inspired geometric graphics in the tiling patterns include: ARRANGEMENT OF SMALL PIECES, also SHELLS and arguably, BOX KITE (also built from a fractal). For more animated fractals at this site, see TRIANGULAR TRIANGLE and SEVEN STARS / SEVEN SISTERS.
