ANTIQUE GEOMETRIC QUILT DESIGNS
HAZY DAZY (VARIATION)
|
< INDEX | BOOKS | NEXT >
 | Quilt Notes: This rendering is a light and dark variation of HAZY DAZY, according to the original, illustrated left, from the Chicago Tribune, early April, 1937, by Nancy Cabot. However her requirements are simply some pieced and some plain elements, which it is faithful to. The title resonates with the much used quilt design name, HANDY ANDY, but also reminds one of things LAZY and CRAZY, and it's just a fabulous name for a quilt pattern. Cabot, in any case, is "charmed," she says:
"One of the most charmingly simple pieced quilts is this, with the strangest of names, HAZY DAZY. It is a four patch design, always combining pieced and plain materials, and always set together as an all-over pattern. Its history is completely obscure, but the pattern contains distinct individuality and character in its utter simplicity. The old block which was uncovered for my use was pieced in red, white, and red with small white figures. This block was 80 years old, and had faded only slightly after years of constant use."
