Quilt Notes: DUTCH MILL is illustrated in Carrie Hall's 1936 ROMANCE OF THE PATCHWORK QUILT (considered by her a classic even at that time), and therefore included in the book's exquisite reprint, titled simply CARRIE HALL BLOCKS, edited and updated by Bettina Havig, American Quilter's Society, 1999. This pattern works well alternating dark and light backgrounds, as illustrated in the tiling mosaic below.
