Quilt Notes: There is a variety of the so-called "diamond-star" in the various compendiums. This DIAMOND STAR debuted in Nancy Cabot's quilt column in the Chicago Tribune on February 13, 1937 (as illustrated left). See also Jinny Beyer's QUILTER'S ALBUM OF PATCHWORK PATTERNS, p.290-12. Cabot's notes state the following:
"With a few magic twists of a triangle and diamond patch the beautiful pieced pattern, DIAMOND STAR, becomes one of the most outstanding pieced patterns among the "star" designs. The background is composed of four triangles peiced together, and the completed DIAMOND STAR is sewed to the block. This often is called the "economy" quilt block, because scraps from various quilts may be utilized and no two stars in the quilt need to be the same. When the coverlet is completed it measures 90 x 105 inches square."
