Quilt Notes: In this DARTING BIRD design (illustrated in Maggie Malone's 1001 PATCHWORK DESIGNS), colors seem to "dart" across the quilt, see the magnificent tiling pattern! According to Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLODPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT DESIGNS, a slight variation titled with the plural DARTING BIRDS (see right) first appeared in the syndicated mail-order column created by Nancy Page (Florence LaGanke Harris), published in the late 1920s-40s, and published in many periodicals.
