Quilt Notes: CASTOR AND POLLUX, a stunning, double four-point star design, illustrated in a Chicago Tribune column by Nancy Cabot (Loretta Leitner Rising) in the 1930's, according to Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS. It is also illustrated in Maggie Malone's 500 FULL-SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS, Sterling Publishing, 1983, with paper templates.
In Greek Mythology, Castor and Pollux were the twin sons of Leda and the Swan (a disguise of Zeus, see below) and half brothers of Helen of Troy. They were worshipped in ancient times as the patron gods of mariners -- a boat St. Paul sailed in was called the Castor and Pollux. They can be seen in the night sky as the constellation Gemini, The Twins, whose brightest stars are named after them. Read more at Wikipedia.
