Quilt Notes:

For pattern templates for this design, see 500 FULL SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS by Maggie Malone, Stirling Publishing, 1985. A gentleman's buttonhole flower or boutonniere, is often coordinated with a lady's corsage; a blue boutonniere might be an hydrangea (see illustration right), a blue thistle or blue rose, or another flower. The design first appeared in the NANCY CABOT syndicated column, written by Loretta Leitner Rising, published in the Chicago Tribune in the 1930's (see Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS).
