Quilt Notes: BIRDS IN THE AIR, a very common sight to see, but always magnificent, especially in flocks. Even in cities, pigeons perform amazing spectacles gliding together high among the buildings. The terrain of this design is also quite common, just three small triangles in a square cut diagonally. This rendering is a variation with dark and light reversed — nevertheless a glorious way to utilize scraps of many colors from great fabrics. Have a look at Barbara Brackman's book on QUILTS FROM THE CIVIL WAR (1997), where this design is beautifully illustrated (diamond set).
Google Books has an enticing preview, here — including meticulous cutting and piecing instructions too.
