Quilt Notes: Online, for cutting and assembly instructions for AUNT DINAH, see McCall's Free Quilt Block Pattern.

According to Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS, the design first appeared in 1946 in a magazine named "Successful Farming," possibly derived from what was called the OCS, or Old Chelsea Station Needlecraft Service, because of their address in New York City. The mail-order company, begun in 1933, has continued to publish in recent decades, for example, they produced "Nifty Fifty Quilts," in 1974 (Graphic Enterprises Inc). For another design beginning with "Aunt," see AUNT ELIZA'S STAR.
