 (THE) ARROWHEAD (4 x 4 Drafting Grid) |
Quilt Notes: For pattern templates for ARROWHEAD, see 500 FULL SIZE PATCHWORK PATTERNS by Maggie Malone, Stirling Publishing, 1985. See also Jinny Beyer's QUILTER'S ALBUM (p. 61-8), which derives the design from the Kansas City Star, March 26, 1941, and Barbara Brackman's ENCYCLOPEDIA (#2312)
Geometrically the obvious four diamonds in the center are surprisingly unusual in quilt designs, (compare with SARAH'S FAVORITE with a six diamond center). For a similar tiling pattern, see also COLONIAL PAVEMENT.
Compare with DOMINO AND SQUARES for light and dark reversed.
See also a completely different pattern, ARROWHEADS, under the plural name, at this site, looking a lot more like the native American or the ancient Greek leaf-shaped arrowheads — see (from Wikipedia for some interesting history).
