Quilt Notes: ALL HALLOWS, with its surprising tiling pattern, which seems to integrate two distinctly different blocks into one, is illustrated in Maggie Malone's 1001 PATCHWORK DESIGNS, Sterling, 1982. According to the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PIECED QUILT PATTERNS, the design was first offered by "Quilters Newsletter Magazine," published since 1969. For geometric designs with two different blocks sharing one grid, see BETTER TOGETHER: TWO BLOCK DESIGNS FOR DYNAMIC QUILTS, by Karen Sievert.

ALL HALLOWS celebrates ALL SAINTS DAY, compare with the Halloween block, CAPS FOR WITCHES AND DUNCES, also NEW MOON and NOCTURNE. Also at this site, click here for a list of recommended books and compendiums focusing on the history and appreciation of geometric quilt patterns.
